Burning of Blessed Palms

On Wednesday, February 26, at 12 noon, outdoors by the church sign, we will prepare the ashes used for the Ash Wednesday service.

Paper ballots will be provided on Sunday, February 23, for us all to note anonymously some sin or burden with which we struggle. These slips will be placed with our tithes and offerings, and will then be burned with our palms left over from 2019. Your confessions will remain anonymous.

The ashes from the palms and notes will be imposed on those who attend our Ash Wednesday worship, at 7 PM, February 26.  Please join us, as our Lenten journey begins.

Prayer & Fasting

BWC Season of Prayer and Fasting–Our Annual Conference is supporting a “Season of Prayer and Fasting” in preparation for General Conference in May. Each Region has been asked to focus on a specific month leading up to this important meeting of our Church.  Our Western Region has been asked to engage this time of prayer and discernment from the remainder of January to February 14th.  During this period, we are invited to pray and fast for the Holy Spirit’s presence and power to impact our United Methodist denomination and local churches like ours.  Pray as you are able each day during the month. Fast, if you wish, each Wednesday and Friday from sunrise to sunset.

We are welcomed, of course, to fast on days other than Wednesday and Friday, if it’s not possible for you to fast on those days.  We are also welcomed to extend our prayer and fasting beyond our Region’s February 14th end date.  I will be joining in prayer and fasting and hope that you will participate as well.  We all believe in prayer and its power to do God’s Will and usher in Jesus’ Reign on earth, as it is in heaven.  There is no time like the present, for seeking God and God’s direction.

Tea Party

Please join us for a Tea Party to celebrate BSHS chorus, soccer, volleyball, and golf girls, and YOU, on Sunday, September 29, noon til 1:30 PM in FUMC Social Hall.  RSVP to the church office 304.258.2766.

Van Driver is needed as some kids need a ride in order to come.

Tea sandwiches still needed – bring them in Sunday, September 29, (egg, cheese, and/or chicken salad or your recipe—mini fruit kabobs would be a nice addition as well for the tea tables.

Go Friends Director

Our Go Friends Mission is asking Jesus for our next Director, so that Go Friends may launch its next decade of service. Our new Go Friends Director must have a love for children and a joy for how Jesus is eager to meet them, love them and get to know them. The new Director must have mature organizational skills to effectively manage returning and new volunteers. The new Director must be able to effectively manage the tried-and-true process that is already in place for planning the program and seeing it through. A new person needs to be in place not later than June 1, if possible. If you would be interested in serving as Go Friends Director, you may contact Pastor Doug or the Church Office at firstumc3@frontier.com or call 304.258.2766.

Melvin C. & Iva Lee McBee Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in 2007 and since then has benefited and encouraged many of our FUMC youth (more than 70!) as they have started college. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to the scholarship fund, so FUMC can continue to meet the needs of this special ministry. Checks may be made to First UMC, with “Scholarship Fund” on the memo line. You may want to consider giving in honor or memory of someone.
