Lenten Bible Study

Pastor Doug invites you to his upcoming Lenten Study, on Wednesdays during Lent, at 6:30 pm, at Green St., beginning March 13 and ending April 17. Adam Hamilton’s book, “Simon Peter: Flawed but Faithful Disciple” will be used. There will be a bonus night of study, after Easter, on Wednesday, April 24, to explore Peter’s discipleship, after Jesus’ glorious resurrection! During the entire study we will look for insight into the quality, uniqueness, and growth of our discipleship. We will ponder our discipleship as we ponder Peter’s. May our walk with Jesus be renewed and inspired as we study how Peter’s discipleship lifted him! Please join us! Study books are available in the office. A $5 donation is requested, but not required.

Lenten Lunches

First UMC is pleased to host this year’s Lenten Lunches, presented by the Morgan County Clergy Association and our neighboring churches. The lunches begin on Ash Wednesday, March 6, and will be served weekly through Wednesday, April 17. Lunches include a delicious soup and sandwich, and a bounty of desserts, prepared by a different neighboring church each week, followed by a Lenten message offered by the Pastor of that church. The FUMC Kitchen Team will serve lunch on March 20, and Pastor Doug will deliver the message. All the proceedings will take place in our Social Hall. We hope you’ll find time to join us for any, or all, of the lunches!

College Scholarships

The Baltimore-Washington Conference will once again be offering college scholarships for the Fall 2019 semester. Students can apply January 3 – March 7, 2019 through an online application system. Scholarships are available to students attending or enrolling in accredited colleges and universities in the United States. Students must be an active member of a church for at least one year and be attending (or will attend) an accredited college or university within the United States full-time. Students will need to provide their official transcript (high school or college) and contact information for two church references (pastor and another member of the church). In addition, the student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. For additional information and to apply, visit www.bwcumc.org/administration/local-church-resources/scholarships/.

Way Forward

Thursday, January 10, beginning at 6:30 PM there will be an informative video shown about our United Methodist “Way Forward” on issues of human sexuality. A Special General Conference will convene in late February to determine our United Methodist stance on issues related to those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered. The video will provide good information on it all, and there will be a time after the video for questions and clarifications.

Gently Used Bibles

Duplicate copies of Bibles in the church library are being donated. If you have gently used Bibles at home and would like to donate them to a good cause, please drop them off in the box provided at the church library by December 2 and they will be taken to the Maryland Bible Society.
